Less leg room one hundred years on

There was such a fanfare about the centennial of the first flight on the news this morning. In fair and balanced mode, we should also remember Sir George Cayley, a fine English gentleman who arguably beat them to it. Either way, the rumors of a big new space program announcement came to nothing.I'm fairly sure I knew Kitty Hawk was the place and not the lady that served tea to those inventive brothers, but you can never be certain.

Accrington Stanley? Who are they?

I was listening to the radio a couple of days ago and heard about Accrington Stanley getting through to the third round of the FA Cup. For many years, I've thought their only contribution to popular culture was the lead up to the punch line 'exactly' in a particularly cheesy, yet memorable milk advert from years gone by.To think I never knew they were one of founder members of the Football League. I guess I wasn't following football in 1889.

The season begins

First snowboarding outing of the season yesterday. Sean and I arrived at Alpental by 9am to a scene of heavy snowfall and at least 6" of fresh powder. Great to get back on the board again, even if it did involve an abrupt introduction to what exactly it means to 'get stuck in powder'.By early afternoon the snow was still falling, but the body no longer willing. Back at the car, over a foot of fresh snow since we arrived and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. It's going to be a good season.
